Sitting over virtual coffee Jen Valentino and I giggled about being Mystic Nerds. “We’re the Mystic Nerd Squad!” I exclaimed. “What else do you call those of us who are attracted to the spiritual world and fascinated by science? It’s the perfect name for my podcast.”
For a long time, I had dreamed about starting my podcast. In my mind, all of the reasons why I was not ready kept coming up.
You’re not ready because you don’t have the gear.
You’re not ready because you don’t know how to podcast.
You’re not ready because you don’t have an audience, guests, or the location to record.
Maybe some of that was true, but then my mind began throwing out all those inner critics to halt any progress toward my dream of a podcast.
You’re not good enough.
No one will listen.
No one will want to be on your show.
Who do you think you are?
Trapped by the noise in my head it felt easier to procrastinate or let the dream die.
Raising my hand I shouted, “STOP!”
Then I asked myself a better question.
What if I start where I am right now, with what I’ve got right now?
So I did.
Here are the three key elements to getting myself on air, despite my inner critic.
Get ready by deciding to start. I got down to basics. What did I need to start a podcast? I let go of what I thought a great podcast would ultimately have.
Get set by ordering basic elements. I ordered a great microphone, chose to initially record on Zoom, and reached out to all the people I loved to chat with to invite them to come on my podcast.
Go Podcast by selecting a podcast platform. After some quick research, I chose Buzzsprout.
Looking over the beautiful range of guests on my first 50 episodes, I feel pure bliss. I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of connecting with my guests for candid conversations. The Mystic Nerd Squad Jen and I laughed over, it continues to grow.
The journey has been so much less about perfection and more about connecting with amazing healers and helpers. You can check out all 50 episodes here: Check out The Mystic Nerd Squad Podcast
